Gregory May has written an important new biography of Albert Gallatin, Congressman, diplomat, and Secretary of the Treasury during the War of 1812, called Jefferson’s Treasure. In his lecture, May will consider why Gallatin and the Jeffersonian Republicans dismantled Alexander Hamilton’s fiscal system and how Gallatin’s fiscal reforms changed American politics.
